Crime Scene Photography

Photographic documentation of a crime scene or an accident has been a routine step in the chain of evidence collection since many years. The objective is to generate a exact digital copy of a scene of crime or an accident site as well as relevant forensic evidence for later analysis or review. Recently panorama photography and laser scanning have started to penetrate the field of Crime Scene Photography.

The major advantage of these new technologies is the addition of a third dimension instead of recording only two dimensions. Panorama photography allows for virtually walking through a scene of crime even months after a crime has happened. Laser scanning is providing the exact dimensional parameters of a scene of crime. This means that a later visitor of a virtual crime scene is able to measure distances and dimensions or follow the ballistic trajectory of a bullet in the virtual crime scenario. Time consuming and expensive onsite visits for officers, attorneys, jugdes or jury members are reduced to a minimum.
